A Call For Holiness

God has instructed his people to walk holy for he is holy.

1 Peter 1:15-16 declares:

“but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, 16 because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.”

Isaiah 6:3 also declares “And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory”.

The scriptures above and 1 Samuel 2:2 (click link) expresses the essence of who God is, declaring that no one is holy like the LORD, and there’s none beside him. The Sovereign God of Holiness abhors sin and wickedness and every evil deed; according to Isaiah 59:2 his hatred of sin has caused him to separate from them that commit sin, and to also hide his face so that he would not hear them when they call to him; but by the mercies of God he is calling All to holiness.

What is Holiness?

Holiness is the state of being faithful to God, this means that the individual’s conscious spiritual state is in submission to God in terms of obedience and reverence to God and his Word. Being holy brings the individual in alignment with God in the spirit, in which the individual is now spiritually in love and in connection, with agreement with GOD, because he has received the Word of God with gladness by faith, and is now resolved to obey it.

This submissiveness to God brings the individual to accountability with the Sovereign God, in which the individual is now diligent to ensure his obedience to God, this is purely for the glory of God and for the love that he has for God.

Holiness is also the conscious state of the mind being resolved to abstain from sin. The individual’s resolved state of mind has now aligned him spiritually with the Spirit of God, in which he begins to love God liberally by the rejection of sin; this is achieved by the help and intervention of the Holy Spirit, in which the refining process to deliver from all carnality, brings purity of the spirit; In this spiritual, liberating condition in walking in the Light, the individual is now deemed Holy.

When someone makes the decision to obey God to walk in holiness, it is a remarkably spiritual defining aspect of that persons life, which shows the Love for God; Jesus spoke in John 14:15 saying: “if you Love me, Keep my Commandments” hence, because of the love that the individual has for God, this individual who has been born again in the spirit with God, receives the blessing of God, because he does those things that are pleasing to God. See some of the blessings in Psalms 1:1-3 :

“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper”.

The Biblical definition of Holy:

The Greek word for Holy is Hagios, which implies faultlessness, purity, consecrated, set apart, morally blameless. The Hebrew word for Holy is “qodesh” which means set apart, sacred.

Before Jesus was manifested, God Instructed the children of Israel (God’s chosen people) to be Holy :

“Speak unto all the congregation of the children of Israel, and say unto them, Ye shall be holy: for I the Lord your God am holy” Leviticus 19:2

In order for the Children of Israel to meet up to this requirement of holiness, the Sovereign Holy God required that the Children of Israel offer animal blood sacrifices (sin offerings), which in that instance would temporarily cleansed them from their sins, thus making them holy before the Holy GOD. This was a temporary measure, a shadow of things to come until Jesus was manifested, for the blood of animals could not take away sins, see Hebrew 10:1-4

“For the law, having a shadow of the good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with these same sacrifices, which they offer continually year by year, make those who approach perfect. For then would they not have ceased to be offered? For the worshippers, once purified, would have had no more consciousness of sins. But in those sacrifices there is a reminder of sins every year. For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and goats could take away sins”

When Jesus was manifested, his blood would ultimately destroy the works of darkness in our lives, to take away our sins, bringing holiness in the Spirit.

Only through the blood of Jesus can we enter into holiness

To be able to fulfil this will of God, to walk in righteousness, we must first encounter God’s Salvation, in which the power of the redeeming blood of Jesus Christ brings one into repentance, to transform and heal from sin. The Holy Spirit reveals in our spirit the wretchedness of our lives in sin, but he also reveals the incredible Power of the Love of God and his mercies, to help, rescue and save the individual who is lost in sin.

The composition of blood

We need to understand the properties of blood in comparison to the Blood of Jesus. I will use simple terms when describing the vital life-maintaining works involved with blood.

Blood is the lifeline for every cell in our bodies. When blood is transported through the body, the oxygen from the lungs is also transported with the blood. The oxygenated blood is transported around the whole of the body to every cell of the body, these cells are then renewed with new blood and new oxygen approximately every 50 seconds, renewing and sustaining the life of the cell systematically.

It is important to know that blood not only contains oxygen but nutrients, which also keeps the body alive and healthy, and that every cell of our body is dependant on the oxygenated blood with it’s nutrients which keeps the cells alive, hence sustaining the life of the body.

Blood also transports Carbon Dioxide one of the waste products of the body, which is then exhaled by the lungs. Other waste materials are also transported by the blood to the Kidneys, Liver and intestines. It is important to know that the substance of blood also maintains and regulates the temperature of our body, hence, keeping the body with its organs in absolute synchronisation for the purpose of maintaining life. The White blood cells are the cells of the immune system, these cells are also transported by the blood when the body is sick or injured, protecting the body from infections and other foreign invaders.

In comparison –

The cleansing /Life giving properties of the Blood of Jesus.

The blood of Jesus washes and removes darkness with all its impurities and putrid mess of unrighteousness. “If we confess our sins, (God) is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9).

The composition of the Blood of Jesus is so powerful, that it removes the curse of sin and all uncleanness from the body, by the Power of God. when we compare the oxygenated blood of our own bodies and the spiritual life giving blood of Jesus with its life giving properties, there is No earthly element or man’s involvement here. God’s intervention by the power of the Holy spirit reveals the blood of Jesus to be the spiritual dimension of God’s saving grace, in which the blood of his Son brings life to our spiritually dead body, awakening us spiritually to God in the Light; It is through this divine transfusion of the blood of Jesus, that God makes that which had become unclean by sin, clean by the Spiritual Cleansing Power of the Blood.

The Blood of Jesus regulates our spiritual body to deliver us from temptations, evil thoughts, fleshy sinful emotions, and every sin of the heart. It maintains our whole life in the spirit, regulating and sustaining our spiritual life with God, hence, bringing God’s protection. See Isaiah 54:17

“No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, And their righteousness is from Me,” Says the Lord”.

What does it mean to Be perfect as I am perfect?

The word perfect derives from the Greek transliterated word teleios which means “whole” or “complete“; hence when the Lord called us to be perfect he was actually commanding us to be whole and complete, as we were before the fall.

To be Whole implies, where we were once broken and wretched because of sin, we are now made whole by faith.

During the great transition from darkness to light, the Lord changes and transforms the individual’s life, setting him apart for himself to make him whole and complete in him again, thus restoring holiness. However we must carefully keep in mind that all this is dependant on the individual’s love for God.

We must not continue in sin after conversion.

We must with all earnestness maintain our relationship with God by the daily maintenance of faith, obedience, prayer life, studying of his Word, application of his Word, spiritual growth by works of righteousness according to his Word, and loving God. Our own works of righteousness will not keep sin away but by the righteousness of God we’re able to maintain against sinful desires.

John 15:3 declares:

“Now ye are clean through the Word which I have spoken unto you”.

2 TIMOTHY 2:15-16 states that we must:

“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.16 But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness”.

Without Holiness it is impossible to please God

It is important that we endeavor NOT to show part obedience, but to make it sure with all diligence to show true sincerity towards God, with all obedience. Note, The level of our sincerity to God will determine our obedience to him.

As obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance. 1 Peter 1:14

The whole duty of man is to love God, with all our heart, with all our strength, and with all our soul in Jesus name, ref. Mark 12: 32-33. We must also present our bodies a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable unto God which is our reasonable service. ref. Romans 12:1

To be holy unto the Lord is a great redemptive work of God, so that man who was defiled by sin, wretched and lost, can again be unitedly joined with him.

To maintain the Light of Jesus in our lives we must absolutely endeavor not to be a hearer of the Word only, but also a doer of the Word. See below James 1:22-25

“But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; 24 for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. 25 But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does”.

Strategies to be Victorious

Decision making plays a large part when it comes to putting forward strategic measures to be a over-comer in God. These strategic measures will bring the individual to adapt to spiritual strategies NOT fleshy derived strategies, which will help him to be spiritually infused with the know-how of the Wisdom of God, to do what it takes to be victories. For example the strategies of putting on the whole Armour of God and maintaining a prayer life throughout, helps to build the individual strong in the spirit, enabling him to be more than a conqueror when challenges are presented.

Put on the whole Armour of God that your able to stand against the wiles of the devil!

Ephesians 6:10-18

Our commitment to God will determine our relationship with God. We are called to be a Holy nation, soldiers of God. However, to be a true Soldier of God we must be clad with the Armour of God. With this Armour we’re able to withstand against every evil dart of the devil. The putting on of the whole Armour of God will ensure victory and protect the individual, sealing the relationship between God and himself, but we must be rooted and grounded in the Word of God.

For as many are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For the Lord is able to keep us from falling back into sin, and to present us faultless and holy before the presence of his glory when we’re clad with his Armour.

Jude 1:24 -25 .

“But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light”. 1 Peter 2:9

In order to enter the spiritual realm of God’s Holy courts we need to know what is required.

Please see Psalms 24:3-4 below

“Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place?  He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully.

Calling all Saints of God, that I may edify, remind and encourage us all, that the Lord God is coming for a Holy people, a Holy nation. We must with all diligence resist the devil, at all cost. Obedience is better than sacrifice (ref. 1 Samuel 15:22).

God won’t except anything less than Holiness.

The enemies objectives is to try to bombard Christians with the cares of the world, to take them off the track of righteousness. But with all durability of the spirit we must stand faithful, vigilant, diligent, watchful, prayerful, for the the Lord has equipped us with his power and authority to stand.

Luke 10:19 declares  “Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you”.

Once the mind is made up to absolutely obey God, and the goal is Light, no matter what we’re going through, we’re already more than conquerors by the power of God.
The Enemies of God do tremble when they know one is not standing with them in sin anymore, INSTEAD we’re GOING AGAINST THEM, BY THE POWER OF THE ALMIGHTY GOD.

God restores in his mercies, That you may be one with him in Holiness, with all reverence to him, with Joy unspeakable.

Revelation 22:14

“Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city”.
